games - Learning to be funny : Bob Barker is so old that when he started the show, he couldnt give away around the world cruise because he thought the world was flat! Bob Barker, from Price is Right, is retiring after 40 or 50 years on TV and radio. It is an interesting show and I watch it sometimes when I am home.

Anyway, on our way back from Northern California, we started playing this game in which we were supposed to say something funny about how long has Bob Barker been doing the Price is Right show.

Here are some examples:

Bob Barker is so old that when he started the show, he didn’t have cars to give away, he gave away chariots.

Bob Barker is so old that when he started the show he didn’t have a suit to wear so he would wear bark from a tree! (My mom quipped, yah and thats why his name is Barker..ha.. ha.. Thats so funny)

Bob Barker is so old that when he started the show, he couldn’t give away a ticket to NewYork because America wasn’t discovered then!

Bob Barker is so old that when he started the show, he didn’t have a dollar wheel to spin because the wheel wasn’t invented yet!

My mom had another funny one: Bob Barker is so old that when he started the show, the contestants had to bid the price of things in number of goats, because money wasn’t invented yet! Good one.

Bob Barker is so old that when he started the show, .. OK, can you think of some?

Sorry Bob, you know we are kidding; we love you!

Getting my ears pierced!

general - Getting my ears pierced! Awesome! I have been thinking about getting my ears pierced for several months now. My mom and dad told me that I can have my ears pierced whenever I am ready; and I was ready for sure.

So today, we marched over to local Calire’s place and decided to get it done. My dad was with me and we picked out this cute gold earring with five little crystals, arranged as a petals of a flower.

I sat down in the chair, not knowing how much would it hurt, but I knew it won’t bother me. I had taken a shot recently and it hurt a lot but it didn’t faze me so this was going to be easy!

The nice girl at Calire’s cleaned my ears, put a mark on the ears, my dad looked at the marks very carefully to make sure they were centered (they were). And then, they used this ear piercing tool (no needles, just the earrings) and I felt a little pinch, it hurt just a bit and it was done!

I didn’t realize that a bunch of people were watching me. There must be about 20 people around me. I saw the earrings on my ear for the first time and they look so gorgeous! The Claire girl asked me if I liked them and I enthusiastically gave a thumbs up sign… and spontaneously people around me started clapping!

I ran over to my mom to show her my earring and it felt so good!

I already feel a little older now!

Rube Goldberg Machines Fun!

games - Rube Goldberg Machines Fun!

I love Rube Goldberg machines; they do a lot and yet do nothing! perfect play machines. My dad showed me some of them on the YouTube. A lot of them are from Japan and they are the masters of it; so neat and clean and elaborate things they build.

So my dad and I decided to built one today. We found this long piece of molding and a couple of marbles and few cups and and few books; we had a lot of fun with it.

We made one with 12 steps today. Here are the basic rules for the official Rube-Goldberg contest are:

# The machine must be no larger than 5′H x 6′W x 6′D.
# The machine must have a minimum of 10 steps.
# There are no maximum number of steps.
# The machine must run, reset and run again in 9 minutes

I’ll post a video when I have made a machine with 20+ steps!

Fire at Griffith Park!

I saw the plume of smoke coming from the west in the afternoon. And when we were going out to dinner later in the evening, I saw the orange flames near the Griffith park.

But the scope of the fire didn’t hit me until I saw the fire from my balcony. There is a full view of the Griffith park from our balcony and it was so strange to see the whole hill side engulfed in fire! It seemed like a place from an outer space, some planet where it is so hot that everything is burning.

Here is a picture of it. The orange that you see is not light from the Sun but glow from the fire!

general - Fire at Griffith Park!

At one point I could see the flame bursting and the fire expanding.

It kept getting bigger and bigger later in the evening and we were just watching it with disbelief. I know it was about 5 miles from us but I felt a little scared too.

Griffith park is one of my fav places to go; I have gone for walks there, gone for the little train rides and of course there is the Griffith observatory. Thank god it was not damaged, especially since they just renovated it.

Wii Mishap! Ty Girlz Rocking Ruby to the rescue!

Ok, so me and my dad were playing tennis on Wii yesterday. His skill score on Tennis is off the chart, 2048 and I am at pro level but still at 1100 range.

Of course, I was beating him in all the games, including when he was serving!

And then, boom! he used the technique number 1 from How to win in Wii tennis at any cost!

games - Wii Mishap! Ty Girlz Rocking Ruby to the rescue! I guess we were paying attention and his green controller smacked me on my forehead! Ouch! It hurt really really bad; boy these controllers are solid!

He ran to get some ice, and gently put it on my forehead!

Moral of the story? While playing Wii, its better to define zones not just on the left and right but also as distance from the TV too. Like from now on, when I play tennis, I will be on the left hand side 5 feet from TV and the other person has to be on the right hand side, 7 feet from the TV! Got it?

Actually I made out pretty good, because while I was holding ice on my head, the mailman rang the bell and delivered a package. My dad said he was going to save it for me and show it to me later but decided to make a peace offering!

games - Wii Mishap! Ty Girlz Rocking Ruby to the rescue! And.. the drum roll please,… it was The Rocking Ruby Ty Girlz Doll! With its own virtual world! We quickly went to the computer and set up our account; my doll’s name is Browny, I’ll post pictures of her later.
